For MicroSD and SD cards, "U3" means it supports fast write speeds capable of recording 4K video and fast-saving of high quality photos. In our opinion, get a "U3" card if you plan to use with a camera that can either record 4K or take rapid amount of photos. If you plan to use in a computer or mobile device, a "U1" card should work just as well as a "U3" card.
