Why is this hot?
1) The combo prices are regular but you get a bonus 4Ah battery which HD normally sells for $119. So basically, you're getting a free extended battery.
2) The Lifetime Service Agreement warranties ALL batteries in the combo for life, including the bonus 4Ah battery.


Ridgid offers a free Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA) to the original owner if registered within 90 days, and the coversnormal wear items such as brushes, chucks, motors, switches, gears and batteries within the combo. However, standalone batteries purchased outside of a combo are not covered for life. Purchasing one of these combos nets you an extra extended 4Ah battery in addition to the two existing standard 3Ah batteries.There are no other combos that offer that many "larger capacity" batteries.

Ridgid also has other cheaper X4 combos previously discussed on FWsuch as theRIDGID 18-Volt X4 Hyper Lithium-Ion Drill Driver and Impact Driver Combo Kit (2-Tool) for $189 (Link)or RIDGID 18-Volt X4 Hyper Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit (3-Tool) with Radio for $199(Link)but both these kits only come with two compact 1.5Ah batteries AC840085.

IMO, these cheaper < $200 combos would be fine if you don't need/want a hammer drill or any of the tools and don't expect to expand your 18V cordless lineup to more power hungry tools where the those compact 1.5Ah batteries will run out of juice quicker.I was originally going to go with the $189 combo (which has a faster charger vs the $199 combo which has an extra radio) but decided that the compact 1.5Ah batteries would be a hindrance since that is my biggest problem with my current cordless drill always running out of juice halfway through a project.

Not to mention the fact that I really wanted a reciprocating saw. I was on the fence on whether I needed a hammer drill as I don't deal with concrete much but after renting one for $20 last week to drill 4 holes in concrete, I decided it might prove useful "just to have".
I didn't expect the circular saw to be decent but got a chance to play with an open box kit at Home Depot and was surprised at how nice they felt, also the circular saw had awesome "kick" which I've never felt with my Ryobi One+ 18V circular saw on Ni-Cad batteries that always struggled to handle anything I threw at it, so I always resorted to my trusty Porter cable corded circular saw.
RIDGID also has some nice Jobmax 18V and other bare tools which generally run around $100/ea and are all covered under LSA, so it can help me expand my tool lineup and utilize my three decently sized lifetime-warrantied batteries I got with the combo kit.

I've spent some times revading through various X4 reviews and they generally seem favorable, with some complaints on the < $200 kit not having decent battery life to do some jobs (what to expect with 1.5Ah compact batteries?!!). I found a review that seems rather "glowy" but I thought I'd post it anyways since it has decent pics of the kit in use:Glowy review ... hmmmm.

My local HD store told me that there's an authorized RIDGID service center within 5 miles of me, so I don't have to worry about shipping anything in for service ... just drop it off and pick it up, so hopefully warranty through LSA will be a breeze. I've read mixed reviews about warranty service, especially if you have to ship it in but I think that is with just about anything (car dealerships, repair centers, etc).
